Calling for Help? 1/28/2024

Matthew 26: 50-56 nkjv

50 But Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him. 51 And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. 52 But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? 54 How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?” 55 In that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not seize Me. 56 But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.

❓ When is it OK to ask for help❓ When has someone helped you get you through something you couldn’t have done alone? ❓

💥   No one likes to go through trials or face adversities.

Why?

A.   We just don’t want to!

  • Makes us feel inadequate - stress - embarrassment - don’t want to get hurt \ or

don’t like the hurt it causes - out of control

B.   We don’t see any good that can come from the conflicts.

  • (Big one) Problems so shatter the good in our world that we can’t see anything good about going through them.

C.   It interferes with our own plans!

  • We feel trapped and being controlled
  • Having to deal with problems that mess up the plans I have.

    • It would be a good church if it weren’t for the people.
    • I’d be a good preacher if it were for the people.

I’d be a good husband if it weren’t for my wife.

⭐   When the moment came when Jesus could have SAVED HIMSELF from all the hardships and pain that were about to happen-------  do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? ----- Jesus chose to face the adversity head on; instead of choosing the easy way out for Himself, instead He chose to go through His trials!

AS A RESULT:

1.     It allowed God’s perfect will to be done.

2.     It worked for Jesus’ good and fulfillment of purpose.  Victory 3.     It worked for the good of others! (humanity.)  (the world)  Reconnected people to God

4.     It saved lives, brought salvation  ( The world)

💥   There is nothing wrong with asking for help!

  • Jesus did!  Come, watch, and pray with Me! v(Matthew 26:36)

He asked God (if possible) to deliver Him from the hardships and trials that He knew were coming.  The sufferings - rejection - pain - mental torment - spiritual confusion…

  • But He prayed for God’s will to be done, even if it meant having to go through (Hell) facing the wrath of sin.
  • Instead of calling for 10 legions of angels to come and fight for Him and deliver Him from the fire, He chose to go through the fire!

⭐   How we choose to face adversity (our problems) is important.

And though sometimes we have the free will to chose a different path, sometimes it’s by submitting ourselves to the:

  • Unknown
  • Sufferings - rejection - pain
  • Mental and spiritual confusion

💥  God is able to orchestrate His perfect will.

➤   We find our purpose in life

➤   We experience unimaginably good that comes out of bad

➤   We are instruments God uses to connect people to Him

➤   People will be drawn to salvation by our testimony

⭐💥   But what happens if we chose to pull the plug and save ourselves?

⭐   This is where Peter shows us what can happen if we choose to pull the plug and save ourselves.

⭐💥   Peter’s way vs God’s way! ⭐💥

I.     We can be a hindrance to God’s plans and will. v54)  54 How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?”

  • For God’s truth to work, there will be times we must face adversities and trials.

    • James 1:  Count it all joy.  That you may be complete, entire, lacking nothing.
    • If we chose to do the opposite or do things our way,  then why do we complain?

➤   If we try to control things to be the way we want it ---- then we mess up the way God wants it.

II.     We set wrong goals for our life! v35) Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!”

  • ⭐  This sounds good but what it meant turned out bad and not in God’s will!
  • Peter went into the garden in a completely different mindset than what Jesus wanted.
  • How Peter was handling it was not the way Jesus wanted it done.

III.     We hurt people God doesn’t want us to hurt. V  ) 51 And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

  • By Peter doing what he thought was the best, he hurt someone Jesus definitely didn’t want to hurt!
  • God doesn’t see people as we see them.

    • When we see the bad and evil and want to destroy them.
    • God sees redemption and wants to save them.

It becomes necessary to fight the evil being done and not the person doing it.

👉 ****)  If you destroy an evil person the evil is unchanged, but if you destroy the evil then the person will change.

IV.        We set a different course for our life. v52) But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.  Not the course God wants us to take.

  • Even though we follow God, we can make life more difficult and painful by the choices and thinking we live by.
  • The boundaries we draw and live by can make life harder than it should be.
  • The worldly beliefs we hold that end up destroying lives.

Romans 8:28  We know all things work together for the good for those who love God.Psalms 119:17 "It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes"

👉 ****) "Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny".

👉 ****) "Tough times never last, but tough people do".

⭐  HAVE GOD  ⭐ PRAY THE GARDEN PRAYER ⭐ DON’T BE AFRAID OF ADVERSITY ⭐LET GOD WORK ALL THINGS TOGETHER FOR THE GOOD.  ⭐ DON’T PULL THE PLUG.
