You Shall Have Power Part 6 6/1/2025

Acts 1:4-5  nkjv4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”       ❓Why do you worship?    What is your favorite part of worship? How does worship help you grow❓

➡️⭐   We have seen that the coming of the Holy Spirit brought great changes to the world. We are saved by grace and faith and not by the keeping of the law.

The coming of the Holy Spirit:

  • Changed how we experience God
  • A “power” (Spiritual ability) to become witnesses.  (Lights to show others Christ)
  • How God speaks to us.  We hear God’s voice. (Before it was only prophets and priests.)
  • Understanding of how to use God’s Word in today’s world. An understanding that the unsaved and the world cannot have.
  • To know the truth and be set free and healed from the bondages caused by spiritual and emotional pains.  Truth that changes life!
  • Power to obey.  To walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
  • New way to pray.   When we don’t know how to pray, the Spirit makes intersection.
  • Even a power to transform our worship.

John 4: 19-24 nkjv19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

⭐   From these verses we see that the dynamics of worship were going to change as a result of the coming of the Holy Spirit.

1.   Where we would worship. v20,21 ) 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.

  • Only in Jerusalem….Where the temple was
  • Only in the temple could people do sacrifices
  • Only in the temple was the Holy of Holies….Where God dwelled

💥  The coming of the Holy Spirit changed this. 2.  How we worshipped. (Method) Music, style, traditions.

  • The Samaritans worshipped somewhat differently than did the Jews in Jerusalem.

👉 ****)  Samaritans had specific rules regarding Sabbath observance, head covering, and other religious practices, which differed from some Jewish interpretations. 3.  Who could worship.

  • Only Jews were allowed on the inner court of worship.
    • Gentiles or converted proselytes could worship in the outer court.
      • After cleansing rituals.
  •  No  unclean Gentile was allowed in the temple.

💥   The coming of the Holy spirit meant everyone, everywhere could and would be able to offer acceptable worship to God.⭐  Baptist, Methodist, Catholics, Charismatics, different cultures, etc.

Matthew 15:8-9) ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips,But their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”💥   This teaches us about vain worship.  (Unacceptable) A.   It’s not about doing the right things in worship. 1.   These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips. B.   It’s not about the traditional way we do things! 1.   The way we always have done things. 2.   The way we’ve been taught to do it. 3.   The way I like it.  ( Worship is not for us) C.  It’s not just about coming to church.  Coming to worship!

⭐⭐  The difference the Holy Spirit makes:1.   The Holy Spirit will draw us to worship.  23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.A.  We must be led and walk in the Spirit. ( If we walk in the spirit we will not fulfill the lust of our flesh.)B.  Being at:     A.   Right place  (where the Spirit leads you.)

2.   The Spirit causes us to know who and what we worship.   22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews.A.   From a ritual to a personal experience.   John 14:7) the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

  • You can do the right thing and not be personal.  Thanking people with cards and letters. (it’s ok) But when you know them or really want them to know your gratitude you go yourself.
    • But when you go yourself and do things yourself… it’s because they hold a special place in your heart.

* True worship comes from us coming to know Him!

3.   The Spirit sets us free from the vain things others tell us we must do. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.

  • Some might want to be still and quiet.
  • Others might want to jump, sing and shout.
  • It might be different at different times.

We need to be set free to do some things that are different for us at times.  (Like the way the Jews were always doing it and the way the Samaritans were always doing it.)

👉 ****)  Just as with the coming of the Spirit, all had different experiences, yet all led of God and pleasing to God.(Andrea Crouch)

  • We must not judge, condemn, or be critical about how others worship God.  All have different experiences - But all have the real thing!!!

God seeks those who worship Him because:1. They are saved... born again of the Spirit. 2  They know Him and worship Him personally.     3. He speaks and connects spiritually, dwells within their heart.  (doesn’t always mean joyful)  (I am here)  4. Empowers them to know His voice and follow Him.
