You Shall Have Power Part 5 5/25/2025

Acts 1:4-5  nkjv4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”       ❓What spiritual abilities or “power” do you have that you know comes from God and not yourself?  What ministry do you do that you know you couldn’t do without the help of God

➡️⭐   When we hear about people being filled with the Holy Spirit, we hear about all kinds of unusual and strange things that happen.    ➣  The day of Pentecost was similar.Acts 2:1-4  When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

  • But for the last couple of weeks we have talked about at least seven other Biblical experiences where the Holy Spirit, “Fell on people”, but they all had different experiences.

💥    Not one of these experiences were identical as the other.1.   Not all spoke with tongues. 2.   Danced in the streets.  3.   Heard mighty rushing winds or 4.  No one else had cloven tongues of fire land upon them.⭐  But they were filled with the Holy Spirit just the same!

  • They all received the real deal!

💥So we shouldn’t be rattled or doubtful about our own experience when others say you don’t have the Holy Spirit because you didn’t have the same experience they had!

1.   Power to Be Witnesses.  Acts 1:8) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”It’s the power Jesus wanted them to receive and have!!!!

  • They would receive a power they didn’t have and couldn’t have without the Holy Spirit.
  • Become witnesses---- Become living proof---- Testimonies for Christ---- Live the life.

2.   Empowers us with God power.  Mark 16:17-18 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” ➣  “FOLLOW”. Those who believe.  Obey.  Walk with God. Do His will and ministry.👉 ****) Trying to do the Lord's work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.  (****👈 Corrie Ten Boom

What are more of these powers we must receive from the Holy Spirit?  (Outside of Mark 16)?

1. Convicts the World of Sin. John 16:8 “And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.”

  • There is no right or wrong outside of God.  Without God, humanity is left to make up their own rules of what is right or wrong…… outside of their own opinions there is no higher authority to set the standards.  One human’s standard is as good as another.

John 16:7-11)  7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

  • A.  of sin:  Of the unchangeable truths of what God says is sin!  We cannot imagine it away or just decide what God says is wrong isn’t wrong.  What is good from evil, right from wrong.
  • B.  of righteousness.   We can be forgiven of sin and become children of God.  We don’t have to be perfect.  (Can’t be this way outside of Jesus)
  • C.  of judgment:   People that do not believe in the Word of God will still be convicted and shown right from wrong in the heart.  Unless we quench the Spirit.

2.   The power to obey! John 14:15-18  15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

>   People can’t change themselves.  We can break bad habits and discipline ourselves not to do certain things, but no one has the power to change their heart!

  • The power that makes us new creations and transforms our minds and hearts. (us) 2 Corinthians 5:17) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

💥 Ezekiel 36:26-27  And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

>    The Helper comes to empower us to walk and obey God.

3.  The power that helps us when we pray. Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

  • Ephesians 6:18 Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
  • Jude 1:20: But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,

Sometimes there is a unique way of allowing the Spirit to help our prayers.

  • 1 Corinthians 14:14-15  14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also.
  • Acts 20:23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me.
  • Acts 16:6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.

4.   The Spirit gives us power to worship God. ( John 4:23) 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

  • True worship isn’t just what we do.
    • True Worship.   John 4:22 "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
  • Matthew 15:8 “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me;
  • Not about music, liturgy, orders.   It’s about Spirit.
  • If the heart is right, then the worship is right!
    • > Not all worship is of God!  Paul and Silas’s worship in prison was just as acceptable as anything done in churches.
    • > We must not judge or condemn how others worship.
    • > Even right worship is unacceptable to God when we do not worship from the heart.
