You Shall Have Power Part 2 5/4/2025

Acts 2:1-11  nkjvWhen the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. 7 Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”

❓ How does the Holy Spirit manifest Himself in you?  What power do you distinctly know you received from the Holy Spirit ❓⭐  Remembering:  Jesus told His disciples to WAIT in Jerusalem until they are endued with power from on high.  ➢  They already had plenty to go out into all the world and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world!➢  They had been taught by Jesus for three years.   

• Knew His teachings and the changes His words were to make in the spiritual life of His followers.

➢  They saw Him do miracles, heal the sick, feed the five thousand and raise the dead! ➢  He gave them authority to preach, teach and pray for the sick.💥   They already had enough to teach and preach for years and make a difference in the life of others. So what more, (What power) did they need?❓  WHAT POWER?A.  John 16:7 The New Era. Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

• This brings a new era for the believers to live in.

⇨  He had not come before  ⇨  He would not come until Jesus had cleared the way for Him to inhabit the hearts of people.  ⇨  He would sustain us with His comfort, courage and peace. B.  John 16:13  He will guide us into all truth. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

• No education, seminary, books, teachers, preachers or evangelists can give us this truth.
  • If Jesus, being with them, couldn’t give it to them, why do we think we can get it from people?
    • And if we do!  WHAT ARE WE GETTING?  

  ➢   Not bad things, just things that are still limited and tainted with human knowledge.    ➢   Why we have so many different beliefs and denominations. ⭐   1 Corinthians 2:14) 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.⭐   1 Corinthians 3:1-6   And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in  Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? 6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.💥  Many go off teaching in the wisdom of mankind resulting in divisions and confusion.

C.   John 14:25 How to apply God’s Word to live by.  “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.➢   There is one limited understanding on how to apply the Word of God to today's world. (The law)   ➢   But the Holy Spirit shows us how to apply Jesus’ Word to all our today's understanding.

• When we face things, the Holy Spirit takes what Jesus said physically and applies the spiritual truth with it.
• Takes us beyond the science of understanding (see,taste, touch, smell, hear) to FAITH.  Walking by faith and not by sight.  Understanding the things that even fellow believers cannot.

💥   What different power did the disciples have on the day of Pentecost?

I.    THE HOLY SPIRIT MANIFESTED HIMSELF THROUGH THEM. V4) 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

• Confusion. Many say that speaking in tongues means only speaking in other human languages.
  • Not so. 1 Corinthians 13:1  If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels. Two different types of tongues the Spirit uses.
  • 1 Corinthians 14:2) For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
• The power of the Holy Spirit manifested Himself through them.  How does the power of the Holy Spirit manifest itself through me?    
  • Power in you that you know comes from the Power from on High!

II.   BOLDNESS v5-6)  5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.

• They were still hiding because of fear of death.
• Suddenly they were bold, regardless of their inadequacies. (education)

⇨   Many are afraid to share their faith ⇨ pray out loud ⇨ live for Jesus in public ⇨ We forget the persecution and fear that happened when Jesus was crucified.  Like it went away.  IT DIDN’T  !!!!  The disciples are the ones that changed!!

• They begin to boldly preach, teach and go forth in the power of the Holy Spirit.

IT WAS THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT CHANGED THINGS, THAT CHANGED THEM.

III. SPEAKING THE TRUTH. v4) 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

• How does the Spirit speak through you?  They receive the power for the Spirit to speak through them.  “The Spirit gave them utterance”
• They didn’t just speak what they had learned, been taught and experienced.  They were empowered by the Holy Spirit to understand and speak the truth.

1.   The truth that sets people free.2.   1 Corinthians 2:4-6 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:  

• The truth that changes lives 

3.   The power to change makes our faith powerful!  v5)5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Not just a head knowledge of faith but a faith that is alive! Living and staying with us, working within us! Comforts - encourages - helps - removes our worldly fears.
